Google Company Profile

Google was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. It officially incorporated on September 4, 1998. Today, Google is by far the most prevalent search engine on the internet and has worked to make the internet more user-friendly, and it protects consumers from fraud and other internet-based dishonesty.
History
In 1996, Page and Brin were both studying at Stanford University. As part of their graduate work, they programmed a search engine which they called “Back Rub”. The search engine was designed to determine the importance, or usefulness, of internet pages on an individual basis. By 1998, they had formalized their work, and generated a marketable model which they felt confident in taking live. They named that model “Google”.
Growth
The company’s visionaries made it a personal mission to “organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.” It began expanding the scope of the project to include translators, blog creation, social communities and more. In 2004 the company made another major change, by inviting shareholders in. It was first offered on NASDAQ on August 19, 2004. It sells under the trade name GOOG.
